Cleaning Guides

How to Properly Clean Your TAGWOOD BBQ Grill

How to Restore & Maintain Your TAGWOOD SI Grill Paint (Step-by-Step Guide)

Important Care Notes

  • Always clean the grill after it has completely cooled.

  • Heavy-duty scrubbers should only be used on cooking grates.

  • Never use abrasive tools on painted or stainless steel surfaces.

  • Contact TAGWOOD BBQ before performing major restoration if you are unsure of the proper procedure.

Stainless Steel Care

Our stainless steel models are manufactured using premium 304 stainless steel, which offers excellent corrosion resistance but is not completely immune to rust.

Rust may occur due to:

  • Salt exposure

  • Coastal environments

  • Chlorides

  • Harsh chemicals

  • Surface scratches

  • Lack of maintenance

Care Recommendations

  • Clean regularly using mild detergent and a soft cloth.

  • Rinse away salt deposits regularly.

  • Avoid harsh chemicals.

  • Use appropriate stainless steel protectants when necessary.

If rust appears:

  • Clean using a nylon brush or abrasive pad following the grain.

  • Use citric acid, vinegar, or commercial stainless steel cleaners.

  • Thoroughly rinse afterward.

  • Passivate the surface whenever appropriate.

Cold-Rolled Steel Care (SI Models)

Our SI Series grills are manufactured from cold-rolled steel.

Because of the characteristics of this material, the following conditions are normal over time:

  • Surface rust

  • Oxidation

  • Heat discoloration

  • Patina

These conditions are cosmetic only and do not affect the structural integrity or performance of the grill.

Care Recommendations

We recommend periodically:

  • Lightly sanding affected areas

  • Applying high-temperature rust-preventive paint

Additional Care for SI Models

To maximize the lifespan and appearance of your SI grill, we recommend the following routine maintenance:

  • Apply a light coat of cooking oil to exposed steel surfaces to help reduce moisture exposure.

  • Regularly inspect the grill for signs of surface oxidation.

  • Treat any rust or oxidation promptly to prevent it from spreading.

  • Perform periodic restoration when needed by lightly sanding affected areas and applying a high-temperature, rust-preventive paint.

Important: Without proper maintenance, surface oxidation may develop in a relatively short period of time, particularly in humid, coastal, or salt-air environments. Routine care is essential to preserve the appearance and longevity of your grill.

Surface rust, oxidation, discoloration, and normal wear are inherent characteristics of cold-rolled steel and are not covered under warranty.

Routine Inspection

Transportation, movement, and normal use may loosen fasteners over time.

Regularly inspect and tighten all screws to maintain:

  • Safety

  • Structural integrity

  • Proper operation

  • Long-term performance

  • Appearance

A specially designed hex key is included with your grill.
